BNCT is a next-generation cancer treatment that uses a boron compound and neutronirradiation to kill cancer cells selectively.The accelerator-based system is small and very safe to use, enabling its adoption in private hospitals.

 

BNCT is said to be the nextgeneration of radiation therapy, following the standard Photon beam therapy and Particle beam therapy. It is especially efficient in case of recurrent cancers, highly infiltrating cancer, refractive cancers, cancers where cancer cells are mixed with normal cells, etc.

 

CICS,.Inc. has developed a new revolutionary system that uses a small accelerator for proton beam and a lithium target which is automatically restore to produce neutrons for the BNCT instead of a conventional nuclear reactor. It is compact, low-cost, and very safe to use, enabling its adoption in private hospital.

 

 

Flow of Cancer treatment using BNCT

A special “boron compound” which is specifically taken inside the cancer cells is administered in advance, and accumulates inside the cells.

 

Neutron irradiation is performed on the boron compound using an accelerator.

 

The neutrons and the boron compound collide, as a type of alpha rays in the particle beam generated by nuclear fission, destroying the cancer cells from within.

Accelerator-type BNCTsystem

High Current Proton RFQ Linac

The device doesn't use nuclear fuel, so it stops emitting radiation once turned off, making it very safe to use. The linear proton accelerator can accelerate protons to 2.5MeV.

 

Lithium-target system

The accelerated protons collide with lithium and a neutron beam is generated, the energy reduced to a suitable level for treatment. There is an automatic system for washing and re-depositing the used lithium foil.

 

Portable carbon couch

The stretcher can be used to move the patient from a CT scanner used for planning the treatment to the radiation table while remaining fixed in the treatment position.

 
     

Five-axis robotic table

It is possible to automatically adjust the 3 dimensional position and angle of the tumor according to the treatment plan to realize the best therapeutic result. It has multiple safety functions  to avoid a collision of the patient with the irradiation outlet.
